BIG CHANGE IN CAJON PASS

THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC RAILROAD EXERCISED THEIR RIGHT TO A ROUTE THROUGH THE CAJON PASS BY CONSTRUCTING A NEW LINE FROM COLTON TO PALMDALE. THE NEW LINE SAW ITS FIRST REVENUE FREIGHT TRAIN IN 1967. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, I MADE TRIPS TO THE CONSTRUCTION SITE TO PHOTOGRAPH THE RARE EVENT OF CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW RAILROAD LINE. THE PHOTOGRAPHS PRESENTED HERE ARE THE FRUIT OF THOSE LONG AGO EXCURSIONS. THIS IS NOT THE LAST OF THE CHANGES AT CAJON PASS AS YOU WILL SEE IN A FUTURE POST. BY GOLLY, I REALLY HAD A GOOD TIME IN 1967!
