SOMEHOW THIS DOES NOT LOOK RIGHT

I have driven by this spot many times, but recently I stopped to take a closer look at this misaligned section of track hoping to find a clue to the reason for the misalignment. No luck in this, instead, I discovered some split rails had been repaired by welding. I have looked at a lot of rail in my eighty one years and I never have seen such a repair as this. I feel certain rail repairs such as this is not allowed today and most likely not back then either. I did find the rail was rolled in 1909 by Colorado fuel and Iron (CF&I).
